This new transfer station is located along 20th Street and 2nd Avenue in Downtown Rock Island.  The station addresses system needs and improves safety for MetroLINK riders.  The station is part of an overall Transit Oriented Development that includes The Locks, a new multi-family housing re-development.  The project supports the Livable Communities Initiative, which strengthens the link between transit and communities.  MetroLINK partnered with the City of Rock Island and an economic development group on the project.

The existing site was a paved parking lot with a 199-unit residential complex.  The new transfer station is approximately 1,600 SF and includes passenger amenities such as a lobby, restrooms, and potential retail space.  Site improvements include reconfiguration of existing curbs, sidewalks and parking to accommodate green space and 10 bus docking stations with canopies.  LT Leon developed a sustainable stormwater management plan and SWPPP, obtained the grading drainage permit, and provided LEED assistance.
